USPSA Changes World Team Qualification Criteria
SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash., – To select the best possible teams for the coming World Shoot, the United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) has adopted new team selection criteria (details at www.uspsa.org/dw/WorldShootTeamSelection.html). Shooters wishing to represent the United States at World Shoot XV in Bali, Indonesia in 2008 must participate in a series of “qualifier matches” to be held under the stringent international rules. Dates and locations will be announced in late Summer following a selection process.
In 2005 USPSA funded four teams for competition in Guayaquil, Ecuador, winning the Open team title, Open junior team title, and Standard team title, along with a number of individual medals. Other USPSA members brought home the Revolver title, Ladies Standard title, and such prestigious individual titles as High Overall Standard, won by Arizona’s Rob Leatham.
As the U.S. governing body for International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) type shooting in the United States, USPSA picks the U.S. teams. Held every three years, the World Shoot is unquestionably the World’s foremost practical shooting event. Members from most of IPSC’s 77 member regions send official teams, flanked by hundreds of individual competitors shooting on industry teams and as individuals. USPSA traditionally provides a uniform and funding for team member travel expenses, adding a financial incentive to compete for these hotly-contested slots.
Exciting Format
USPSA shooters draw, negotiate obstacles, and dash through brightly-painted courses of fire as fast as safety and accuracy will let them (see www.hosercam.com). It’s an exciting game that has fascinated combat handgunners since Jeff Cooper formalized the rules in the 1970s. USPSA’s six divisions provide ways for most any defensive handgun owner to participate, regardless of equipment type. Whether they own a single-stack 1911, or box-stock Glock, custom racing pistol or double-action revolver, USPSA has a place for them.
