USPSA Launches “Match Ammo” Program With Precision Delta

Ammo program.jpg

  • WHO: USPSA recently did something about the problems associated with shipping ammunition by launching an official “match ammo” program through Precision Delta www.precisiondelta.com.PHOTO: Standard-length and long-loaded (1.175 OAL) 180-grain .40 S&W. Precision Delta created these loads specifically for USPSA competitors.

  • WHAT: Shooters headed to participating matches may purchase USPSA-appropriate loads through www.USPSA.org and pick them up at the match. This includes a wide range of pistol ammunition, including two USPSA-specific loadings of the .40 S&W: a standard-length version loaded to make USPSA “major,” and an over-length version for race-tuned wide-body 1911s (see photo). Precision Delta will manufacture the pistol loads, filling orders for rifle and shotgun ammunition with Winchester products.
  • WHY: Airline regulations commonly allow passengers to pack only 5 kilograms (11 pounds) of ammunition in their luggage. That weight generally gets a USPSA shooter through one day, maybe two, depending on caliber. For a 3-Gun competitor carrying rifle, pistol, and shotgun ammunition, 11 pounds is laughable.Shipping ammunition via UPS ground works, but is expensive and slow. Using USPSA’s match ammo program eliminates all these hassles.
  • WHERE: Details available through the USPSA website, at www.uspsa.org/ammo
  • WHEN: Program becomes active in 2006, taking orders for shooters headed to the Florida Open (the first match to qualify for the program) to be held Feb. 17-19, 2006.

FACTS: USPSA is the governing body for the sport of practical shooting in the United States, and is the American region of the International Practical Shooting Association (IPSC). USPSA is a non-profit membership association with approximately 15,000 individual members and nearly 400 affiliated clubs. Local USPSA matches can be found in every area of the country every weekend. Regional competitions are also conducted, and all lead to the national championship events. Competition is conducted within Divisions, which are defined by the equipment allowed within each.
